In order to become certified as an EMT, you must first obtain in our EMT. In 2019, the National Registry of EMTs eliminated age requirements in order to become an EMT. This enables a lot of younger folks to take the EMT class who might not otherwise have been able to take the class. although a person becomes nationally registry certified, it does not mean that they can instantly obtain state certification.

While every state is a little different, the general requirements for state certification in relation to age are that student has to be 18 years of age before they are permitted to practice as an EMT. These requirements are set no matter where the program is instructed.

The good thing about students who are under 18 obtaining their NREMT certification is that they can apply to become an EMT as soon as they turn 18 in their state. The job of an emergency medical technician is exciting, interesting, and a true public service to the community.
